online mentorship

A personalised one-to-one approach for artists who are looking to build their confidence in glass, find their target market and put themselves in it, or just need regular technical support to realise their ideas. As a glass artist who is regularly a teacher and a student, I understand how important focused support can be in helping you reach your potential.

This programme consists of a monthly 1hr videocall on Zoom. During the first call you will show me/explain where you are on your glass fusing journey and where you’d like to be. Together we will build a bespoke plan for you for the month/year ahead. We will remain in email contact throughout the month. Each consequent month will begin with a video call catch-up, up to an hour in length.

This plan will cost £40 per month rolling, or £440 upfront (1 month free) for a year.

These are the sort of things I can help with:

Devising a kiln program from scratch for an unusual project

Assistance in understanding how firing programs work and how to create one for a bespoke project

Choosing a kiln and building confidence in using it

Concept development and approaches to design for glass

Technique demonstrations

Creating a body of research, research skills and how to interpret research that you will use as inspiration

Advice on artworks that haven’t gone to plan and how to avoid the same issues next time

Helping you establish and build your brand by reviewing website content, identifying your USP and fine-tuning your social media presence

Assistance in identifying your market and putting yourself in it

Signposting to artists, exhibitions and other inspirations that I think will resonate with your specific areas of interest

Ongoing, intuitive support to build your confidence in using glass as your medium for self-expression

TESTIMONIALS

I accidentally found Catherine over a year ago and initially took her “How to Teach Glass Fusing” workshop. I learned so much in that first class and was so impressed with Catherine’s teaching style that I signed up for a year-long mentorship with her. In that year, she has been incredibly encouraging, supportive, and helpful to me as I muddle my way through this art form and building a business. She always provides positive feedback and suggestions for growth. I’ve hit some rough spots along the way, but having Catherine there to bounce ideas off, vent my frustrations to and generally provide non-judgmental guidance has been invaluable. Having the one-on-one time with her gives me a chance to really address things that are specific to me and my situation. Catherine’s mentorship has become a vital resource for me, and I am incredibly grateful to have found her! (And yes, I’ve signed up for a second year, as there is still so much to learn, and I have a long way to go!) This has been one of the best decisions I have made, for myself, in recent years. Catherine is a delight to work with and the benefits for me, are immense. All technical discussions and details are very clear and so easy to understand and to progress forward with it. Her obvious technical knowledge and skills are in abundance, however her people skills and encouragement are a delight. I come away from each exchange fully energised and motivated. My confidence and technical knowledge of glass work has increased wonderfully. Knowing I have Catherine’s technical and profession support means that I am much more likely to tackle new projects or to experiment more. Having that backup support to discuss a concern or a hesitancy I may have has been great. Vera, June 2020

Having Catherine as a mentor really developed my confidence in my own ability to understand my knowledge of my kiln and how to adjust it from schedules written for Bullseye when I work in 96 for my glass. Being mentored helped push me out of my comfort zone and create work that I would not otherwise have made. Having her back up made me try things because I knew if it went wrong I would be able figure out what happened and learn from my mistake, therefore pushing my glass making forward. Carla, June 2024
