The fun in designing fused glass jewellery can be found in the challenge of designing on a small scale and considering how your artwork can be effectively worn on the body.

This course offers a series of practical demonstrations on construction techniques for jewellery and how to combine these with various approaches to design. Learn how to layer, embellish and fire fused glass jewellery pieces to get various effects. We will cover methods of using dichroic glass, how to deconstruct an image and create it as a piece of jewellery, incorporating different types of inclusions, mica and decals, painting with enamels and kiln-carving to get a textured finish. Many of these techniques can also be translated for use on larger work.

We will also look at how to use and incorporate different types of findings and fixings and drilling holes, cold-working, as well as presentation techniques and pricing.

We will consider different firing options, including tack, contour and full fusing, adapting these firing programs for jewellery and deepening your understanding of what happens to your glass in the kiln.

The priority of the this course is not to show you how to design the jewellery I make (although I will do this for demonstration purposes), but to equip you with the skills to design your own and develop your own style.

This course is suitable for beginners to glass fusing. You will need access to a kiln.

This course is demonstration based, you don’t need to buy any materials ahead of the course. Rather, you can gain all of the information from the course and decide what you would like to try afterwards.

The course will be interactive and limited to eight students to ensure you have time to ask any questions you have and there will be opportunities for discussion throughout. The course will be hosted on Zoom.
