Design, build and fire your own murrini cane is a regular glass kiln of any size - no hot tools or vitrigraph needed! You will learn a variety of methods that will allow you the versatility to create any design you can imagine in your head, at virtually any size or shape.

We will look at how to use commercially sold ceramic murrini moulds, discover their pros and cons, before exploring various alternative methods, including using a Silkemat mould (a fibre-like mould making material). Alongside each construction method I will also show you how to design your murrini and build your designs with ease. I will show you how to fire them effectively at any scale.

I will also cover how to cut the murrini canes up and how you can squash the slices (an optional process to make the slices wider and thinner).

We will discuss a variety of ways that you can then utilise your murrini slices in your designs.

This is an intermediate course, basic fusing knowledge is essential. You will need access to a regular glass kiln.

This course is demonstration based, you don’t need to buy any materials ahead of the course. Rather, you can gain all of the information from the course and decide what you would like to try afterwards.

The course will be interactive and limited to ten students to ensure you have time to ask any questions you have and there will be opportunities for discussion throughout. The course will be hosted on Zoom.
