Talk and Q+A - There's no such thing as 'the kiln fairies'

£8.00

Do you cross your fingers when you turn the kiln on and make a wish to the kiln fairies for a good result?

If words like ‘annealing’, ‘ramp rate’ and ‘bubble squeeze’ give you anxiety, this is an opportunity to find out what they mean and why you need to know.

In this talk, I will work through a series of kiln firing programs, identifying where the ‘risk’ areas are, and informing you how and when firing programs need to be amended. You will discover that most firing programs follow a similar structure. Starting with full fuse, tack fuse, slumping and draping firing programs, we will then progress to more complex programs including screenmelts and potmelts, drop outs and strip cut construction programs.

The idea is that you will take away a thorough understanding of what happens to your glass at different parts of a kiln program and why, meaning you will be able to make intuitive ammendments to your kiln programs going forward and create your own if you’re making something experimental. You will be able to anticipate what’s going to happen to your glass, rather than making a wish!

This talk will be hosted on Zoom and you will have the opportunity to ask questions throughout using the chat function. Unlike my courses which are limited to small student numbers, this talk will be open to up to 40 participants so will be a less personal approach than I prefer to offer, but I have found this works well!

On booking, you will receive a confirmation email, and two days prior to the talk you will receive an email with the Zoom link and a PDF copy of the firing programs we will be looking at.

Suitable for fusers using COE90 or COE96 glass.

IMPORTANT: This talk will not cover how to use your kiln controller, demos of the techniques that these firing programs are used for or any other contextual information. If you are a complete beginner or are interested in learning techniques you will likely find one of my online courses more useful.
