Becoming
Becoming
Becoming a mother in 2017 was a transformative experience for Catherine Dunstan, and one at odds with her lifestyle and personality. An anxious individual thrown into a world of responsibility and vulnerability, Dunstan sought control and organisation in her work, which led her to create meticulously planned symmetrical patterns.
This piece is the cornerstone of a collection of works that aims to break free of that organised convention. Two opposing working techniques, one random and one organised, fight for power over the other before reaching a point of cohesion, reflecting Catherine's journey of depersonalisation as a new mother, and subsequent re-discovery of self.
Becoming utilises the Dopamine colour palette of black, white and pink.
